Reincarnations '05

A single shot glass from a series of 24 produced for Aleksandra Mir’s exhibition, New Designs: Birth, Death, and Abortion at Andrew Roth in 2005. Each glass features a black and white photo of a face belonging to an identified child born in 2005, with the words “REINCARNATED ‘05” above. Below the floating head is the name of a famous person or political figure that passed away the same year, visually proposing that the infant pictured is the reincarnation of the deceased.

This glass depicts the possible reincarnation of French philosopher Jacques Derrida.
