Small black-and-white booklet of staircase sculptures by Athena Tacha. Tacha has always been fascinated by staircases and mountain paths, but her true inspiration for these non-functional staircases began on a visit to the ancient Greek sites on the islands of Rhodes and Kos in the summers of 1969 and 1970. For this project, Tacha wanted to “isolate and rationalize some of the kinesthetic experiences of the act of ascending and descending; to bring forth the spatial feeling of different step arrangements; and to stress the inherent logic as well as the sculptural qualities of staircases.”
